The Cook Islands’ economic, social and environmental wellbeing is closely connected to its marine and coastal resources. Our priorities include protecting maritime interests, conserving marine biodiversity, promoting equitable access to ocean resources and bringing traditional knowledge into international ocean policy.

The Ministry participates in treaty processes and international discussions on issues including ocean governance, climate finance, human rights and sustainable development. National priorities guide the positions we take and the partnerships we pursue.
Our strategic direction calls for greater influence in the forums where international rules and decisions are shaped. This includes strengthening the Cook Islands’ contribution to multilateral cooperation and treaty processes.
