Cook Islands Status is a passport endorsement recognising you as a Cook Islander by descent. It carries the right to travel freely to and reside in the Cook Islands.
Birth in the Cook Islands is not on its own evidence of Cook Islands heritage. The endorsement is made under section 24 of the Cook Islands Immigration Act 2021.
What you need to provide
- A copy of your passport biodata page
- A copy of your birth certificate
- The birth certificate of your Cook Islands-born parent or parents
- The birth certificate of your Cook Islands-born grandparent or grandparents, if your parent was born outside the Cook Islands
- Evidence of any name change, such as a marriage certificate or a statutory declaration
Documents must be originals or certified colour copies. Anything not in English needs a certified English translation.
What it costs
$30.00 per application. The endorsement lasts the life of the passport. Apply again to move it to a new passport.
